January 2018 – Australia Day

Silvio, along with founding members of the Adelaide Hills International Sculpture Symposium, Barry Windle & Nigel Steele Scott, were presented with Civic Awards by the Adelaide Hills Council.  Pictured are councillors Andrew Stratford & Lynton Vonow, Silvio, Nigel Steele Scott, Treasurer of AHISS, David Furner also a recipient of a Civic Award, Barry Windle and retiring local member for Kavel, Mark Goldsworthy.






















To top the day off, the 2017 “Sculptors @ Crystal Lake” at Macclesfield, which was inaugurated by Silvio in 2015, won “Event of the Year” in the District Council of Mt Barker’s Australia Day honours.  Silvio is pictured with tireless committee members Dave & Anne Welsh.

December 2017 – Unveiling at Adelaide Oval

Silvio’s sculpture of former Australian captain, SA cricketer Clem Hill 1877-1945, was unveiled at Adelaide Oval yesterday with several members of the Hill clan attending.  Clem was a brilliant batsman who retired from the game in 1912 as the world’s leading run scorer.  The sculpture was funded by benefactor Basil Sellars AM and completes the 8 commissioned works at the Oval.

November 2017 – Sculpture Trail Launch













The official launch of the Hills Sculpture Trail took place at Ukaria Cultural Centre, Mount Barker, a superb venue to celebrate the extraordinary vision of Silvio and his supporters in the Hills and Fleurieu communities.  The 25 visiting sculptors excelled themselves and the trail will be a great addition to culture & tourism in the region.

October 2017 – Australia Day Award Nomination

Silvio was shortlisted as 2018 South Australian Senior Citizen of the Year, one of 4 finalists.  What an honour!

He was nominated for his lifetime contribution to the arts, mentoring of young artists and promoting reconciliation with indigenous people.

The winners in each category will be announced on Monday night 30th.

September 2017 – Bungendore Wood Works NSW

After participating in “Collaborations” in Newcastle, Silvio will be exhibiting at Bungendore Wood Works from the 24th September.  bungendorewoodworks.com.au


August 2017 – Study Tour EU








Silvio has returned from 6 weeks of discovering more wonderful public art in England, Germany and the Baltic, including a visit to Barbara Hepworth’s Sculpture Garden in St Ives in Cornwall.

July – August 2017, SALA

South Australian Living Artists SALA exhibition “Dridan & Friends” will be held at the Stationmaster’s Gallery from the 31st July to the 27th August, 10am – 4pm daily.  Featuring David Dridan, Silvio Apponyi, Harry Sherwin, Bill Steel, Cheryl Anne Brown and David Hamilton.  Enquiries 08 8536 4563.

Silvio is exhibiting in support of Rotary’s Shelterbox program, along with colleagues John Nelson, Sally Wickes, Tim Spooner, Nicholas Uhlmann, Quentin Gore and many other great sculptors.

April 22nd – 30th – SALT Festival Port Lincoln

Silvio’s work in progress, the good ship “Pavarna”.

Watch out for Silvio & colleague Marijan Bekic who will be carving stone on the foreshore near the jetty at the inaugural SALT Festival in Port Lincoln.  They will have some of their work on display at the gallery at the Civic Centre.  Silvio will also be singing in the combined choir which is presenting Rosemary Nairn’s “The Two Captains” in the Civic Centre concert hall on Sunday 23rd at 2.00pm…a tribute to Matthew Flinders and Nicholas Baudin.

Easter 2017

While at Crystal Lake, Silvio also carved this amazing Bilby out of a block of Melba’s milk chocolate.  Melba’s was one of the sponsors for Sculptors @ Crystal Lake.  The Bilby was auctioned for charity and fetched $2,500.  Happy Easter everyone!
